Default Torque conv install help

hey all! I have a 99 silverado4.8 4l60e tranny. I am doing a tranny swap from a camero 4l60e (tranny in truck went out 6 days after I bought it and the camero tranny was a steal w/ less than 30k on it) Any way I swapped all the parts nesessary for this switch and mounted the tranny. I had to buy a new Torque converter and upon atempting mount it to the drive plate I noticed that there is a one inch gap between the drive plate and the tc. I know that I am allowed 1/8 in before adding spacers but one inch isn't that a bit much to to add spacers? My converter bolts are not even long enough to do this. How do I fix this and why am having this problem. I have done a lot of research on the web to no avail!! Please help!!!

thanks
