What oil do you prefer, and how often do you change it with what filter?

 

Me personally, I use Mobile 1 0W20 with a wix filter changing every 3000mi.
What do you use?

 

Royal Purple 5W30 with a Mobil 1 filter every 3k-4.5k miles.

 

Have you seen any performance increase from the RP?

Well the temp was easier to control. My pressure went up bout 8psi with it so it's worth it.

 

I run what ever name brand oil is on sale. And a regular old name brand filter (STP). I change my oil every 5,000 miles.

 

I have always had good luck with Pennzoil and a Fram filter. I run 20w50 in the summer and 10w30 in the winter.

I like Mobil1 for gassers. I come from diesel pickup ownership and used oil analysis to determine oil change intervals. There is little point changing oil if its not really dirty. The only way to tell is to have it tested. Since my diesels all would go at least 4-5K on a change, and they are WAY dirtier than gassers, changing out expensive synthetics in 3-4K in a gasser, without testing is crazy. More than likely a modern gasser will go 8-10K between changes. I wouldn't just do that, I test the oil and then extend the change, test again, etc. until I found the correct interval. I used Blackstone Labs for testing, no affiliation, just a satisfied customer. Considering what synthetic oil costs it makes sense to get the most out of it. RT
