Default 4X4 Indicator

I just bought a 1999 Dakota, ext cab, 4wd, 318, auto with the N231 four wheel drive set up. Is there supposed to be an indicator light on the dash that shows it did engage? The owners manal shows there's supposed to be indicators for full/part time 4wd if you have the N242 4x4 system, I don't. When I go from 2H to 4H I'm pretty sure it's working as I was able to get out of the sand I purposely got stuck in to see if it works. If not there's got to be somewhere to splice into with an led to indicate hook up, any ideas? Thanks.
