Default Check engine light

I have an '05 Ram on which the engine light has come on. A quick diagnostic check by a mechanic says it is on due to an "evap leak". He claims this is not a concern and that it is difficult to find and it poses no serious threats to me. Comments, suggestions?????

it will not cause any drivability issues or damage any components. The evap system is used to prevent vapours from the fuel tank escaping into the atmosphere.

Usually, small leak detection require the use of an evap smoke machine and a scan tool that can seal the evap system.
Post the code that has set and maybe someone here can help.

emission testing....not here in the wild west of oil country...people barely run cats here lol. Only for the gta....Canada's California. I am for emission testing; just not the way its run in Ontario. With all the data compiled, it should be just an I/M monitor inspection.
