I am new to this forum, but have an interesting problem. My brothers 03' f350 5.4 ltr. auto 4x4 stops charging and all the gages drop to 0. After playing around with the wires and all the fuses I found that if I wiggled the shifter the gages came on and the battery would charge. The overdrive switch has not been working properly for about a year or so. I removed the plastic from around the column and there it was, the three wires from the overdrive switch were rubbed bare. Problem solved, simply splice wires together and it should work right? Wrong. I jump the two terminals on the right of the conector gages work and batt. charges. If I press the overdrive button in it stops charging again. Must be boken up at the switch end. No problem, call body at body shop to get me a deal on a new shift handle and harness. Pick up new piece install and it should charge right? Wrong. Now I am stumped. I know it has something to do with these three wires, suspect that it shorts out the ecm, but everything else works. Any Ideas? Will be racking my brains again this weekend.
