Please help ID a component for me !!!
I need assistance with this one. I just changed my fuel filter on my 03 f250 7.3 L deisel and had the hood up so I could make sure there was no fuel leak. Now here comes the issue!! Just as I started to close the hood, I noticed smoke rising from this component located on top of the engine. I think it is a relay. My truck has two batteries & there are two of these brown relays located next to each other with each having wire coming from a battery. The one in question is located closest to the firewall.
When I removed one wire from this relay, It was hot enough to burn my fingers. Thus I believe I have a dead short. I was told by a friend that this relay could be for the manifold intake air heater.
Please if you can help, Will this cause me any issues if not fixed immediately and where is this heater located so I could hoppfully be able to do the work myself. I a'm retired and not a lot of cash is flowing in the right direction , Ha HA. Thank you in advance. Regards: Mackenzie
