Default temperature increases while hauling uphill

My 1999 F350 has started to feel like it's losing power lately. And when I'm hauling up a hill the temperature gauge shoots up and then after we crest the hill it slowly begins to go back down. It think my turbo might not be kicking in or something. Has anyone else had this problem or know what could be going on?

you might want to check the head gaskets...we just had to replace them on ours b/c the pressure from the cylinder was pushing over into the coolant system and when that happens the coolant spits out and temp gauge spikes...it would also explain the loss of power because your loosing your pressure for those cylinders....it sounds like what was happening to me so thats what i would check
