Touchy 02
I have a 2002 F250 Diesel that will not start sometimes. It may go for weeks on end and then all of a sudden - nothing. It will turn over but I have to let it sit for an hour up to a day or two and then mysteriously it will start. No ryhm or reason. ?? Frustrated. Already burned up one starter in frustration....
Hello buddies!
It sounds like it could be several things.the not starting quickly could me its time for some plugs, wires, and a cap and rotor.
If replacing the plugs, only use Champion RC12LC4, Autolite 3923 or 3924, or NGK FR5-1.
with the wires, anything will be better then whats in there, just stay away from Bosch.
The cap & rotor works the best if you can get a cap with brass terminals.
if its damp out, that could prevent it from starting as well if the cap has a crack, there could be moisture grounding out the coil at the wire or at the plug.
There is no fuel filter to replace since its integrated into the fuel pump module in the gas tank. you can rent a fuel pressure gauge from AutoZone to test the fuel pressure.
Now it also sounds as if the starter is going as well, if it clicks a few times before engaging like it sounds like you are describing.
Also check the battery terminals to make sure they are clean and tight, if you are not getting a good connection at the battery it will cause the clicking noise you are describing, so if they look corroded, replace the ends.
