Default '93 1500 Steering Column

Hello,
I have a 1993 Chevy 1500 Z71 Short Bed Pickup. Within the past couple of years, I've had to had the steering column replaced two or three times as it keeps coming loose after a while. Any idea what could be causing this? A mechanic told me that pulling yourself up into the truck will cause this (this, of course, is obvious), however, that really hasn't been an issue as I'm always conscious of this when I get in and out of my truck. Is there a possible mechanical problem or is this caused simply by a bad personal habit I'm unaware of? Thanks in advance.

Rick
