Two questions for 78 Chev C-20

Hey all, Newbie Chevy owner here. I have a 78 Chevy C-20 with the 350, 2WD p/u. Good little farm truck, but there are a few things that I am curious about...

#1 - When I leave her alone for a week or so without starting, the carb and fuel lines seem to drain back to the tank. Or maybe the fuel is leaking out somewhere. Is there a check-valve that should be in there, or do you think that my old truck needs new fuel lines and the cracked, old fuel lines are "releasing" the vacuum on the suction side of the mechanical pump?

#2 - When she drives, the manual transmission is very noisy - sounds a bit like grinding, but not totally metallic... Not sure what to make of it. Suggestions?

#3 - When I turn the steering wheel all the way to one side or the other, there is a horrible squealing sound. I have filled the steering fluid, what else to check?

Thanks, all!
Josh

p/s belt I imagine on the squawl...

not sure about the tranny noise...better let a ytrans shop listen.

the drainback...yes,the pump should prevent that...but more common was the plugs in the bottom of the floatbowl would drip gas into the engine overnight

Thanks for the advice on the P/S belt and tranny.

As for the plugs draining gas into the engine, is that something that will require a carb overhaul? While I am at it, should I replace the stock Rochester with an Edelbrock or Holley?

Thanks!
