Default Best exhaust for the $$$$

I have a 2000 GMC yukon 5.3, what is the best route to go to give me a good sound and help it flow better. Cat back, just Muffler? I was told that this truck already has stainless steel exhaust 3" and that a Muffler would be just fine.

Opinions please

TJ

If your going to purchase a muffler worth the money and sounds good id go with the 40 series flowmasters or the super 40's...i got the 40 series and it does a very nice job

Flowmaster 40 is great, but I'd just cut it off right in front of the muffler and use a dump tip. Less restriction, and cheap.

I would stick with the original 40 series. At the present time, I have a super 40 on my 5.3L and don't get me wrong, it does sound good, but not like an original 40. I have a friend that has two original 40's and good Lord his truck sounds a lot better than mine. I have ordered two original 40's and I can't wait to get them on my truck. With that said, the super 40 is designed for higher horsepower applications. I've heard it on a 70 ChevelleSS that had 520hp/585ft/lb, and my God it sounded like something from the gates of Hell! In addition, the 40 original is going to be a little louder when you are idleing as well. Remember, are 5.3L idle at 500RPM so that is not going to produce much sound through a super 40, trust me I know. Anyway, good luck in your decision and whatever you choose, I hope you gain maximum horsepower and torque.

If you want high flow but not quite the volume of the Flowmasters, Spintech makes a good produce. Put one on my '98 Ram with a 3" cat back pipe. It's not as loud as the Flowmastes but does have a little extra rumble.

Spintech is kind of pricey though. Kind of - not too bad. Had one on my Z71 though and it sounded good. I like my Borlas better though. And they have a "cheaper" line, but they're the same muffler - stainless steel, straight flow through...
