Default Best exhaust system for '05 2500HD Crew?

Hi Everyone... I bought an '05 2500HD Crew a few months ago and I've been thinking about putting a cat-back and coldair intake on. I want the exhaust to sound good when hitting it, but I don't want to hear it when I'm cruising down the highway. I'd love to get some more power and mpg's! Any advice?

I would go with a Corsa, or Borla. They have exactly what your looking for. Corsa is a little expensive, but Borla is about the same and you can buy just the meffler and have a muffler shop weld it on with bigger diameter tubing. Corsa only sells cat backs I believe. If you want you could also go with a magna flow, cheapest and same design as others, but doesn't sound as good. all three are loud when you get on it, and quite when you cruise.

Agreed...Magnaflow is probably the loudest. Corsa is ridiculously priced. I personally have two of the Borlas...

I like flowmaster mufflers. I have had three of them on three different trucks and i have loved the sound of all of them. They even make a muffler for the higher out put engines like the HD models. These muffles are quiter then the 40 series but therewill still bea good bark when you get on the gas. That and the mufflers are usually less than 100 bucks and a local muffler shop will proabley weld it on for pretty cheap.

I agree with rjdoolay. Flowmasters all the way. I just recently had a catback system installed on my '03 Silverado w/ the 4.8L, and it has the Flowmaster 50 series on it, and goes straight out the back. Its sounds good when accelerating, and going down the highway, its not bad at all, once the RPM's drop down. First Flowmastermuffler i have had on any vehicles, and i recommendthem highly. The muffler shop bent the pipe etc, and put the FM muffler on, its not the whole catback system bought directly from FM. My system cost me $400.00 installed w/ 2 chrome 10" tips. Jim PS, noticed the post above mine, Gibsons are nice systems as well, wife had one on her Avalanche w/ 5.3L, and it sounded nice. It was on her Av when she bought it, it runs about $440.00 from Stylin' trucks.

Thanks everyone! I had listened to Borla on a youtube clip and liked the sound of it. DamnYankee, how does the borla sound cruising around town or on the highway when you're not stepping on it? Is it very loud?

rjdoolay, does the air raid jr make a nice improvement?

Ya I really like it and the improvments that it made for the breathing of my truck. I figure that if i open the exhuast up a little i should do the same for the intake. I didnt want the full intake so this wasa great route for me to go. It actually keeps the air coming in a lot colder because it draws air from the stock position in the fender rather then taking the air from the engin compartment were it has a chance to get heated up from the heat of the engin.

I havent been able to test it in the heat of the summer because i bought it in mid december. I think it is a great buy over the full air intake.
