Truck Recommendations
Hello- I have owned a small Mazda B2600i since 1990. I love the truck and it has always seemed to handle my needs. She is started to show her age and my needs have changed over the years. I am now nearing retirement and would like a truck that I can travel around the south east towing my hobby cars to various events. I am considering new or used and on the fence regarding 4WD. I am not big on big technology and would prefer to keep it simple. I would prefer to put my money into durability and comfort over bells and whistles. My cars weigh in at approx 2800 to 3400 lbs. Will probably go with an enclosed trailer. I really love the 5.7 Tundra but the low MPG is tuff to swallow but it seems to fit what I am looking for in every other category including price. I still have a year or 2 of working left and my commute will be 160 miles round trip per day at times. There are some many trucks and options to choose from so I though I would float the question looking for informed opinions. Thanks!
The 5.7 Tundra can handle the weight, and many people trust it for towing. Yes, the MPG isn’t great, but it does the job well. If you’re looking for fewer tech features and more focus on towing and comfort, it’s a solid choice.
You might also want to look at used 3/4-ton trucks like the Ford F-250, Ram 2500, or Silverado 2500. Some of these can tow more and have simpler trims with fewer extras.
If you’re thinking about used, I recommend getting a vehicle inspection report before buying. It can help you avoid costly problems later.
As for 4WD, if you’re mostly on highways and dry roads, 2WD should be fine. But if you think you might be in wet grass or gravel at events, 4WD can help.
Good luck with the search.
