Default Buying a truck

I don't know how many people actually read all these "newbie" posts, but I assure you, I am newer than you, because I don't own a truck, yet.

I am in the market for something cheap and durable, probably something mid to late 80's, early 90's at newest, for around a thousand bucks. There is a lot of trucks that fit that description around here, and I was wondering if ANYONE out there has an opinion of truck of that era, and what make/model would be the best. I am fairly experienced working on vehicles, but mostly import cars. But I have rebuilt an engine and am replacing a tranny this weekend, so apart from being bigger, I don't see trucks as much of a challenge.

That being said, if Chevy's were garbage in that year-span, let me know, or if Ford were especially unreliable, or if Dodge were dodgey, please warn me!

Hey chief there ain't no such thing as atrashy brand of truck
if u buy one of the big three.
All I can say is ,it depends on what u like.
Get out there and kick the tires and drive a few of each.
Trucks are like anything else if not maintained properly or taken care of they ain't gonna be that great.
Just my 2 cents
