Default Hey Gang!

New guy to the forums here. Have a '93 GMC 1500 with the standard 4.3 with headers and a piggy-back chip. On a CST 6" lift with 35's. Looking to peruse the forums to see what I can do to get some more ponies out of it without swapping out the motor.

Welcome. Isn't the 4.3 a V-6? For some reason I'm thinking that the smallest V-8 was the 4.8, and the 4.6 was the same bigger V-6 they put in the Astro van, but that may have been a 4.0.

Yep, not happy with it, but it's super reliable and pretty fuel efficient!

Just my 2 cents but the 4.3 was great in the S10 but I feel it was to small for a full size truck and for the money to get more out of it is a waste of time and money.

But welcome to the forum.

The 4.3 is a great engine. I have one with over 450,000 miles and still starts and runs like brand new, and I have raped the crap out of it (its in a two wheel drive astro van, im 19...so yea)

In my opinion, I would leave the 4.3 in it, but I never would have lifted the truck, not with that engine. With these smaller engines, when you add the weight of the bigger tires, you now only lose HP, you also lose MPG. With slightly over stock sized tires on the van I have (It has two hockey pucks jammed under the rear springs...), I was getting about 24-26 MPG, And it still had enough to do some pretty good burnouts. The 4.3 is about as bullet prove as they come.

Now, go google Chevy with the 4.3 and a turbo. Lots of people have done it to get the HP of a small V8, and still get the good MPG. Kind of like the Ford Eco Boost.

The 4.0 and 4.6 are Ford engines.
The 4.3 is the only V6 GM has been using in their trucks since the late '80s when the S10 had the 2.8/3.1 option.
FWIW, Chevy had a 4.3L(262CID) V8 in the '70s

I'd consider swapping in a TBI 350 rather than modding a 4.3L for that truck.

Somehow I accidently hit 4.6 in my previous post. I meant 4.3.
