today i was attempting to pull out a tree stump in my yard and i broke my 30,000 lb 30 foot tow strap snaped right in half i was also using a log chain about 5 foot long that was around the tree the log chain is fine i just need some advice on what brand to get next my tow strap was from keeper if you have one you use all the time and never had problems with it let me no winter will be upon us and i need to get my recovery equipment up to par cant pull a stuck truck with a broke rope
i do not have a recovery operation but i do get called often to pull my buddies out of the ditches and snow and mud during the winter

 

First off if your 30K lb strap broke in the middle and the chain didn't it sounds like the strap had a weak spot or some damage too it. BTW, what were you using to break that strap? We've used a 3" with a suburban and 30' running start and didn't break the strap, if it was in good condition. Also shouldn't be using a recover strap for stump removal, when that stump comes out it can, and has, hit the pull vehicle.

Recommendations for straps, I used to recommend and buy Keeper brand straps but they have since out sourced all their straps to China. Now they are no different than any other low bid supplier IMO. Try these guys for USA made recovery gear, Tow Straps and Recovery Straps.

The 1" ratchet straps that keeper made in the USA had heavier built ratchet mechanisms than their chinese competitors but now that they are off shored the durability has dropped.

 

i have the goood old 10,000 lb keeper ratchet straps love m i used it to winch my old truck frame onto a trailer with no problem anyway i will take a look at what the haveto offer the tow strap broke at the loop in the middle
