I gave blood for the first time today.In fact, about an hour ago...I wasreally nervous for a while and then itwas a whole lot of nothing. Wasn't uneventful though.I had to set down with one of my friends after I gave blood and hold her head for her..lol She passed out twice on meand I had to sit there andstuff cheez-its in her mouth for about 15 minutes. I'm still slightly light-headed, but even on an empty stomach I was fine.

[/align]If you haven't given blood at all or are scared to, its really not bad at all. Its really a goodand rewarding experience. The phlebotomists were nice and very skilled, so they didn't have to go digging on anyone. If you are afriad you will pass out, as long as you pass out sitting or laying down, you will be fine. lol

I have given blood a few times, and it's not bad. I agree that more people ought to get their *** in there and do it. There are ads prominently displayed throughout the papers around here, "Make $50-75 per donation!!!"

A few of my family members give blood but I'm just not planning on contributing that way. It would be my luck right after I gave blood I'd get in a car accident and get some kinda laceration and bleed to death in a couple minutes. But seriously, they charge people quite a bit for that blood when they give it to them in the hospital but they don't give the doners anything around here except a Debbie Cake. That's not helping, it's being a sucker. Besides when was the last time you saw someone on the news who died because they were out of blood?

 

Charger, you're taking a pretty dim view of the world. You wouldn't bleed out after giving blood. That'd only happen if you had taken blood thinners... It only takes the body about 2-3 hours to fully reconstitute whatever blood was lost.

It takes actually 4-6 days to fully reconstitue the red and white blood cells, but only 3-4 hours to restore what blood you lost with fluid and platelets.

The primary reason give blood is to help save people that would die by not getting transfusions during surgery. One of my best friends had massive internal bleeding after falling out of the back of a truck and it took two blood transfusions to restore what blood he lost in the accident and in surgery. If thats not a good cause, then what is?
