Default Tailgate not opening

I have a 95 GMC K1500 and the tailgate will not open. What do I need to replace?
Thanks for any help

Most of the time it is just the handle. If you remove the bezel around the handle you will see a metal arm with a 90 degree bend coming from both sides. Sometimes a little lube will get it working. You can squeeze those 2 arms together to open the tailgate.

Yeah I have taken the bezel off before. Each cable gets pulled, but the left side gets pulled more than the right?

You need a new handle, but you can take the handle out and try bending the tabs that pushes down on the part that the 2 arms attach to. Your right one is up further than the left one. This has only worked a couple times for me (I have repaired and replaced many). The handles are cheap so I would probably go that route and call it done.
