Return to Toyota
Having defected to try a Nissan Titan, I am back and I am glad. The Titan had some first year (2004) problems, not an uncommon thing, but Nissan really dragged their heels when it came to correcting them. Toyota's work better and the support is better.
I went right out and added a few aftermarket items:
1. The guys who design Toyota grills are creating a lot of business for the aftermarket companies. The previous Tacoma was REAL ugly. This one is only a little better. I bought a black mesh grill from Grillcraft. It looks like a grill ought to look..... cool. It also fits like it was installed at the factory instead of in my garage. It was truly a no-brainer. I will attach a photo.... I hope
2. I like a soft tonneau so I don't have to mess with the lid every time I open the tailgate. The Access Cover tonneau has superior materials, both in the cover and in the hardware. It handles a 4' snow load with no problems.
3. I plus-sized the wheels and tires to 20": Centerline Stingray III's and Toyo Proxes 265/50/20 tires. I like the look and I got a great deal at a Les Schwab Tire Center.
The Tacoma could use a lock for the tailgate. If anyone knows about one, please reply to this post.
