Angry 03 duramax diesel Hard to start

With 140,000 miles my 03 duramax was getting harder to start each day until one day I had to pump the fuel filter primer pump in order to get it started. I visited a local shop which had a very knowledgable diesel mechanic. I was informed that I needed new fuel injectors. And it would only cost around $6000.00 I left there in disbeliefe, went home and did some research only to find they were indeed right. I then went to the dealer I purchased the truck, they ran some diagnostic test and said "you need new injectors, and it's around $6000.00". I asked them about the extended warranty GM issued for 200,000 miles 7 years once they found out there was a problem. I was informed that although I only had 140,000 miles I was at 7 years 6 months and therefor I was out of the special warranty. Now to make a long story short I called GM and after several calls and a week later they sent some one out to the dealership. The dealership then called me and advised me that GM would pay all but $1250.00 whil they were in there I had them replace the glow plugs, water pump and starter. It's never started so good!

They lied! the 7 years starts when the problem, the date you first inform any dealership, or they run a diagnostic on it, NOT the build date for christ sakes. The reason it is that way is to give the used car buyers a chance to get their trucks fixed because GM dosen't have all their addresses. It has to be this way !!!!!

I've not heard of this 7yr 200,000 mile thing... could someone bring me up to speed here? We've had two Dmaxes and neither had injector issues

lb7's have injector issues period. I read your other post Kevin about the 01 with damn near 400k on it. It must be a factory freak if you never replaced the injectors. Because of the failure rate with the lb7's GM extended the warranty on them. But that warranty doesn't apply to all dmax's after the lb7 because the injector issue was addressed.

Most times if you raise hell with GM they'll help you with the replacement of the injectors but ONLY ON YOUR LB7.

I think it was California trucks only. It is certain vin 3 #s of 2002-2004 trucks.

No, it's for the lb7 period. We have every dmax motor to date on the farm. I've dealt with all this sh*t in some way or another.

It may be due to the injector problem and there should be changes been made in it.

You need to have the balance rates of the injectors checked, and a fuel return rate test done. I suspect an injector failure.

Yes, there should be an issue in the injector.
