Default 02 sensor

I have a 96 silverado with the 5.0 and its a nightmare trying to get the light off. one code is p0141 o2 sensor heater circuit malfunction bank 1 sensor 2. firstly, can anyone tell me exactly where it is? Secondly, does it mean i should replace it or is there somthing wrong somewhere in the circuit? if anyone could help please post back even if its just telling me where it is. any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Bank 1 Sensor 2 is the O2 sensor after the catalytic converter on the same side of the engine as cylinder #1. Usually this is the driver's side for most engines.

This could be a circuit issue but most likely, if it's been more than 100 k miles since the O2 was changed, the sensor could be bad. You could check the sensor wiring/connector for a broken wire first. Swap the sensor with the other side and see if the problem follows the problem sensor. If you get a code for Bank 2 Sensor 2, then it's the sensor. If you get the P0141 code again, then it's a circuit issue on the Bank 1 side.

hmmmm.....I will stick my head under my 97 today and look.....just to double check and let you know what I find..............but it should be like this: Bank1 sensor1 is in the pipe close to the manifold, Bank1 sensor2 should be BEFORE the CAT but AFTER the Y, Bank1 sensor3 is post CAT, Bank2 sensor1 is in the pipe close to the manifold.

Thats what I remember from the last time I was under mine but I will double check

Okay, your model/year is a little different configuration with the O2 sensors. There could be a number of different configurations depending on how you exhaust is setup. It all depends on how many cats you have and where the two banks merge (the Y-pipe). Some have two cats (one for each bank) and some have only one (one cat for both banks). If you have a bank 1 sensor 3, then you probably have one cat. Right? In this case, your bank 1 sensor 2 is a pre-cat sensor and you have two sensors before the cat.

On the bank 1 side, starting at the exhaust manifold, follow the exhaust pipe and count the O2 sensors. The first sensor at or after the manifold is sensor 1. The next sensor you find is sensor 2.

The other bank may have the same configuration; two sensors between the manifold and the cat. But, it may not if the pipes merge before the cat and there's a sensor between the Y-pipe and the cat. Everything after the Y-pipe is bank 1.

I hope this helps better.

Cool '93 k3500

I'm far from a pro, but here it goes. K3500 sputters and dies when I put it in D or R from a stop. Also, if I sit at a stop in gear with foot on brake it will die. Here's all that me and shop help did.
New, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, Amzoil Power Foam.
Helper got his scanner on it and it pointed to an EGR problem.
We replaced IAC, EGR motor, EGR valve. No improvement.
At 200K everything else runs great.
What's the next step?
