Default 1987 GMC Short Box

Feb 02 2013 marks the day I drove 5 hrs to southern Ontario to pick up my newest project truck
As the title says it's a ruff lookin 87 GMC short box. but it doesn't have a box.
That I will have to find.

My plans are.... to switch out the 87 GMC grill and head lights to a 86 Chev quad head light system with the turn signals behind the grill.
I got the truck for an investment to fix up and sell.
It came with two bran new doors and one full replacement rocker panel.

The 305 runs but needs an exhaust and the drive train works perfect. But could use some love (Full service)

Are those GM doors or aftermarket one?
Reason I ask is I bought a pair for my '88 V30 which were imports and they were stamped so bad they would never seal to the door seals. Returned them and found some GM replacements.

wow this is gonna be an awesome project! I'm excited to see your progress with it! I actually really like this vintage of chevy truck. I mean, I like my '96 GMT400 style, but that body style I like better. Honestly I'd daily drive one if I could find a good clean 4x4 version of that truck, and one that I could put an OBD2 powertrain in would be my perfect truck I guess.

@ Dan It came with ywo new doors. The passenger door is already installed and the driver's door is still in it's card board package. It says Genuine GM Parts on the package.
I'm hoping in is poor installation, but the passenger door don't fit well. Won't even open and close. I'm guessing it is just an adjustment fix.

I'm a huge fan of this year truck. It's the first year of the TBI
After I'm done with it. It's gonna look like this 87 GMC

That was exactly the problem I had with the RH door. When bolted to the hinges you could not move the hinges far enough back to close the door. I had to stack almost 3/8" worth of washers between the door and hinge to move the door back far enough to close it. Then the front edge of the door did not even touch the weather stripping and you could see out the gap to the front fender. Installed a GM door and was able to move the hinges back to stock location and everything was fine.

Sad part was that I had the doors painted already
Lesson learned, hang new sheet metal for fitment BEFORE painting!

I'll keep that in mind Dan, the next time I need replacement sheet metal. DON'T BUY AFTERMARKET knock offs

UPDATE
I thought I bought a Short Box Turns out this is a 131.5 wheel base
not a 117.5 wheel base.
Which is still OK with me. I think it will be still be a desirable looking truck as a 4x4 8' box

IMO, they are sharp looking trucks in either wheel base.
Flip side is it should be easier to find a good box.
