Hey everybody: Newbie Dan here - just joined as today I became proud owner of a 1995 Ext. cab 1500 Silverado step side 4x4. (123,000 miles)
It was a farm truck and had a rough life, but the the original 5.7 has plenty of life and while the truck needs loads of TLC inside and out, I'm looking forward to nursing it back to glory with #1 son.
First order of business is to get rid of the factory alarm. It went off several times (for no reason) the fob is shot - doesn't even have buttons anymore and I have no use for the thing. I assumed it was aftermarket, but after looking under dash, pulling back carpet and not seeing anything, I realize this is original and I can't find any info on it. I have no paperwork, manuel, anything for this truck. I'll get myself one as I'm in it for the long haul. But I gotta get rid of this thing. Couldn't find anything online either, so here I am. Any input would be appreciated.
MY skill level is probably above moderate. I worked on cars a lot as a kid. Put this same engine (but bored and stroked) with TH400 w/ shift kit in my 76 Nova - that was over 20 years ago. Also had a 70 Torino and some other fun stuff - just been outta the scene since kids came along, now my 17 year old is interested in it, so I'm dusting myself off and jumping back in. It's gotta be like riding a bike, right?
