Default 1996 K1500 Wont shift INTO Park

I have a k1500 1996 v8/350. Automatic 4x4 a few days ago stopped going into park. although you can manually do it at the switch. Tried replacing the Neutral Safety switch, no luck. Will start in Neutral. Outer insulation of cable is frade but looks intact.

Have no clue what to do next, or what to look for.... is there a way to adjust? most of the internet points to years other then this truck that we can find. so they look different then this one.

What I'd do is lay under the truck and pop the cable off of the side of the transmission with a flat blade screwdriver in between the bracket and the cable, then manually shift the trans lever all the way forward into park and then jump in the truck and see what happens to the lever when you try and shift it into park. If the cable doesn't push out far enough to line up with your shift lever again, you need a new cable. It should move nice and smooth and extends out far enough to line up.
