Default 1st Truck. 1st Post. 1st Hit and Run. :(

I got my first truck 3 weeks ago. A well used, but well maintained 1988 1500C. As luck would have it, some jackass hit it on Friday night, in an un-insured truck which he later abandoned. The registered owner had lent it to someone, told them to insure it etc etc.

Regardless, looks like for now I'm on the hook to repair it, and I need some advice. If this was the damage on your truck, would you:

- fix with bodywork?
- replace the box? Its kind of off kilter, and the tail won't come down. I was told there are a number of years that will fit.
- other?
- need to get a new bumper too.

I'd be ok with the dent, if I could easily fix the tail light.

Any advice for a truck Noob?

You can get a whole new box assembly for about $300 so I would just do that if I were you

Call the junk yards and price a new box.

Check your insurance company, even if you have liability some will cover it if the other motorist is uninsured or its a hit and run,but you will need a police report. If not hunt craigslist you'll find your parts there or in a junk yard.
