Default 2000 to 2006 are the best generation

just to show how good these trucks are:

I bought a old 2000 sierra 4.8l with 350 000km. I 've decided to check some maintenance items.

the spark plugs had no center electrode left...worn back to the ceramic insulator....gap was over 100thou. with these old plugs the truck ran fine...no misfires, hard starting or any problems or dtc

after seeing that, I changed the fuel filter....could barely blow through it. yet the truck ran fine, no lean codes.

I sure running like this is hard on the coil packs and fuel pump....but the darn thing just keeps going.

Sounds like a good truck....but, it was not well maintained.

My 97 only has 244,000 km on it, but has been well serviced since day 1. Previous owner had kept the records. I bet mine goes well beyond 350 too.

Appears as though mine was maintenanced rather decently as well, cause my 96 turned 191,000 miles yesterday. I've already re-maintenanced everything I can on the truck, and it's been a real trooper since I've owned it (181K I believe). I'm pretty sure it's got the original 305 vortec in there too

something to be said for maintenance.

I have completed all the maintenance now. Every fluid, all worn/broken parts, freshly aligned and undercoated....with my luck, I better knock on wood.

The previous owner put on 10ply load range e tires. They are basically brand new and show no irregular wear...but the alignment was way out. the toe setting was way out +0.34degrees each side (spec is +0.05 +/- 0.02*). Why spend $1200 on tires and not get the alignment checked?
