Default 2003 1500 HD...Tire Question..

Hello fellas..newby question here..

I have a 2003 1500 Crew HD..4x4. I need to get a lil bit more clearance on my truck. Bad thing is..i don't want to put a lift on it. I would rather not spend 3k to do that.

I'm lookin to run 265's or even larger if possible. Are they any SIMPLE/INEXPENSIVE mods to be done in order to run say ...285's even. somethin every so small. I'm lookin to gain maybe 1-3" not much more.

possible?

The 265's should fit with out any modifications. I have seen 285's on HD trucks with out a lift but have been told that they rub when you turn and you have to trim the front air dam.

hye there,

ON a 1500hd you can run 265's without a lift, you can run 285's with a torsion bar key lift. this lift cost approx $150. All it is is a set of torsion bar keys, this will level out your truck. If you do alot of offroading I would stick with 265's. But light offroading and street driving 285's will work.

What is the major difference between a 1500HD and a 1500 Z71??? I have 285's on my Z71 without a lift.

I have a 2500 HD 4 x 4 2004 and looking to do the same by going to larger tires and no lift. I currently have the stock 245 bicycle tires. A few questions about it.

1. Is a torsion bar key lift the same as a "porkchop"?

2. What is the issue of using 285's off road?

3. My tire guy also said that you get uneven wear too because the 285's bow in?? Maybe that is because of the 16inch rim?

Thanks
