2005 Silverado Engine swap
Hey guys.
I just bought a used 05 Silverado with that weak 4.3 V6. The truck itself is beautiful, and has alot of potential. But I'm about to scream because the lack of power. So before I ask my initial question, is there any quick fixes to add a little bit more power to this 4.3 while I search for my new engine?
Anyways, I've never dealt with an engine swap in trucks, only in cars that I've worked on. So hopefully you all can lend some tips.
Right now I'm looking for a 396 or a 327 to drop in the truck.
Are there any major pitfalls I'm gunna run into on this project? I know on cars you've got to worry about ECM swaps, new wiring harnesses, and all those wonderful time eaters. But in trucks do you have to fool with any of that?Or just bolt it to your bellhouse, prime the engine and drive.
Any advice?

There is probably gonna be alot to change in order to go from a 6 to an 8. At a minimum you are looking at headers, ECM, and I don't know what tranny they have in the 6, but I am pretty sure it is not strong enough. I would first start with looking at the free mods that are posted in different spots on this site, and then decide about the motor swap. I think it will be alot of work and expensive.

Well money really isn't a problem. Headers, Motor Mounts, New tranny, etc. Usually comes with any motor swap. I'm just wondering if this is possible for me to do by myself, or would I have to take this truck somewhere and pay out the *** for some professional to do it. Only I really see in a DIY is fooling with the computer, so it would probably limit me to the 327s they put in the Z71s.
But I'm not opposed to just running a carbeurated 396 lol
