I've got a '08 Sierra 5.3L 4x4 Z71 package and the original goodyear tires with 62,000 miles. They have some cupping on the inside edges so I was considering new tires but a local shop said I have bad upper ball joints on both sides. Can this be true? I've never heard of ball joints wearing out that fast and they are sealed so you can't grease them. I tried wiggling them and don't see any movement. Thoughts?

 

they wear out the only to check them is to put a jack on the lower control arm and use a pry bar to move the wheel up and down

 

I think I would get a second opinion. I cannot imagine the ball joints wearing out this soon. Have you rotated your tires regularly?

 

I rotate them every other oil change It does not cost me to rotate them
