Default 2nd Battery

Anyone have any links or ideas on how to properly add a second battery to a 97 Z71? When I turn on my 5 KC spots on the roll bar my voltage meter goes flat.

Thanks in advance.

You might have to get a alternator that puts out more.

Thats where i would start, with a larger output alternator. I know many years ago, me and my buddys used to run Warn 8,000 Lb winches on our Jeep CJ's, as well as 3-5 KC Hiliters, it put a strain on our batteries. I believe we replaced stock alternator with higher output ones, and also put in bigger batteries. Never did 2 batteries tho, but wanted to.

A higher output alternator will work. Try a Optima Yellow top battery before you do two batteries. Yellow tops have a high reserve capacity, like a maqrine battery would, only with more cold cranking amps.

It also helps to have the second batt to draw off of. It helped to keep my voltage from spikes and dropes, which keeps the electronics from getting messed up.
