Default 97 Z71 Electrical Problems

Hi guys, I have a problem and I've been searching for a solution but can't seem to find one anywhere online. It was a stupid and avoidable mistake but here it goes.

The underside of my steering column cover broke off, and I had to run to the store. So I get to the parking lot and my keys touched the wires in that little black box just under the ignition. Melted some plastic and started smoking.

Now I have no radio, the 4wd button just blinks and never engages, no wipers, no power windows, no nothing. The only things that work are my lights and turn signals.

I've heard it could be the multi function switch. Anyone ever had something this dumb happen to them? I'm just hoping you guys can help me out as I'm a little short on money this week and it's been raining like a bitch. I never appreciated my wipers until now. Thanks ahead of time!

Ooff...

Sounds for sure like your multi function switch... these things are quite finicky, can be expensive, and require a column puller to replace...

I really wish I could offer some more promising insight...

Well, chances are if the wires melted, you'll need a new ignition switch, cause that's what lives under your ignition cylinder. So firstly, if it's just a little melted, then make sure there are no bare wires touching anything. If they are bare, separate them and repair them to the best of your abilities, but make sure they are not touching each other ... then inspect all your large buss fuses under the hood. Make sure none of them are blown, cause chances are you have some blown fuses. There's a 40 amp PCM fuse if I recall that is tied into the ignition circuits that will play a major factor in those circuits.

Check those things out and see what ya get Good luck
