Hey Argon, I have heard that there is another port or something that that you can check the ABS codes from? Does it exist and if it does where is it?

no...the 1 port is it..

A cheapie scanner hooks to the port and reads JUST ECM codes...a 4thousand dollar tech 2 hooks to the same port but reads...(on an 07 anyway)
Ecm
Bcm (body)
EBCM (BRAKES)
Radio
XM
Onstar
Lreft door module
right door
Dvd player
Cluster
Rke (Remote keyless)
and more...the 1 port is it

Old thread I know, but I've heard before that the GM trucks had issues with the ABS sensors getting dirty, especially where salt is used on the roads. The dirty sensors for some reason cause the ABS to engage at slow speeds. I'm not sure how to pull them and clean them though - the previous owner of my (new to me) truck pulled the fuse for the ABS so irrelevant to me at this point.

Speaking of mushy brakes, mine has brakes that are a pile of mush. I feel like I'm going to put my foot through the floor sometimes. It probably does need new pads all around, so I'll do those and maybe the braided brake lines to see what kind of improvement I can get - has anyone tried aftermarket rotors, or some super sticky pads or anything?

My '99 has mushy brakes also.

I have aftermarket rotors all the way around on my truck. They're from Advance or Autozone, I don't remember which. They are fine "Made in China" products. Seriously though, they are good rotors. They were true and have shown no wear or anything weird after 2 years.

Just installed new shoes, drums and cylinders on the back and pads, rotors, calipers and brake lines on the front. I got a good deal on the pads and rotors, slotted and cross drilled from Powerstop at Summit as a package deal, and ended up buying new calipers and lines when I saw the condition of the old ones. Same with the drums, the old ones were pretty well rusted out (thanks to whatever they put on the roads out here in the snow) so replaced those, and one of the cylinders was leaking so replaced them as well. Happy to say that all that work paid off and the brakes feel a lot better now, and are certainly a lot more confidence inspiring.
