Default Argon!!!

Argon, I think my alternator went south... I was driving and watched the volt meter go from 14 and just fall... Then I pulled into a parking lot and it died... I'm guessing the alternator died and the truck ran off the battery for a while...

Anyhoo... My question is, do I need a 105 ampalternator or a 130 ampalternator? If my truck came with one, could I use the other? I'm guessing the 130 was just an option???

I have a 5.3 LT trim level, towing package, and electric fans... thanks.

If you can get a 150 amp alternator that is what I would do. I see it everyday at work where we keep adding electrical/electronic stuff in our trucks. The smaller alternators cannot keep up with the load and keep the batteries charged completely. In this case I say bigger is better.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking... My truck came loaded to the gills from the factory... With the e-fans, it had a hard enough time charging... I don't wanna risk going with the 105 when it may have came with the 130...

It should say on the alternator it dose on mine at least. Argon hasnt signed in since 7/31 So I dont know if you want to wait for him to decide.

Get the bigger one, also you should be able to rebuild the current one if the bearings are still good. But if the bearings are shot then don't try and rebuild it, just get a new one. If you do decide to rebuild it, you can get the rebuild kits from a Kragens or what ever you have there. I have rebuilt one in my old Camaro one time. Well if you are going to buy a new one then get the biggest one that you can (that will fit in your truck).
I like the new diesels with the duel 105 amp alternators that are an option.
Well good luck on your decition, but always remember, if in doubt that you may not need the bigger one, get the bigger one! It may come and bite you in the a$$ later!

I think there is a 200 amp unit also. It comes on the ambulances.
