yeah i know a couple people with yellow tops and one with a red top and the yellow tops can run their radios a lot longer without killing the battery... i listen to my radio a lot with the truck off so thats kinda a priority for me...

It's sad when you can honestly say thrashing your battery is a priority.

Ofcourse it's also sad that a thread about my battery dieing and me upgrading has gone on this long.

My battery is mess up also I hope it dont start in the morning so I can go get a new one and get some time off work even if it a couple of hours. It started a few day ago I had to get a jump. I might get the yellow but I like the color red beter.

Dude, seriously. If you don't have a lot of flashy bells and whistles on that thing, you don't need a yellow top. You really don't need an Optima but they look good and they can handle a lot more than the average battery(so they say). If you decide to get one just get the 720 Cold Cranking Amp Red Top. That's what I ended up going with.

There's not much of anything under the hood to paint. I thought about painting the engine cover but I don't want the Vortec to get covered up and you can't mask that off.

Sure you can you just got to take some time cutting it out and there is the cover in front, fuse boxvalve covers, and the fan cover thingy

Actually the yellow top is a deep cycle/starting battery whereas the red top is just a starting battery. The yellow top is actually designed for "killing" and recharging. So in theory, if your running a buncha flashing lights and a system when the truck is off, it's actually a much better battery. But the warranty is only 1 year free replacement on a yellow top vs. 3 year free replacement on a red top. I'm not "showing off" my truck which is one reason why I went red top. I also couldn't justify the spending that kinda money on a battery that only has a 1year warranty.
Yes, I know. The little batteries are the ones I was knocking, not the yellow tops. Thats pretty much my point, yellow top is overkill unless you plan on running a ton of stuff a long time without the engine running. For the money and the warranty the red top is much better.

rollingthunder: I just took it as a sign to quit buying Fords built in 94 for $2000. Ha. The other was a 94 Exploder that I'd rather not talk about. 2 Trannys in 5 months, then it was time to buy something with a warranty.

Me:
I said it once.....I'll say it again.....if it has **** or tires sooner or later it will give you problems....I don't care who makes it.
