I just got a great thing from Harbor Freight. Its an innovative new jack (see pic). No crawling under or fighting with a floor jack, you just roll it to the tire you want to lift - and pump it up with the foot pedal.

Also, b/c it lifts the tire, it has a very good lift height. A floor jack only starts to lift once it reaches the frame contact point. On a truck (or especially off-roader) that can be pretty high.

FYI - here is the HF link:

Better in some ways but not for all. It would be a pain in the *** to change a tire using that jack. I like a good ol' 3 ton garage jack for all my truck lifting needs.

You are right - it does need a jack-stand for any tire work.

When you see it work, that fear goes away. There is an andjustable contact pad that rests against the top of the wheel/tire. Once engaged, the whole set-up is very stable.

I like the idea for trucks because they sit so much higher and have a lot more supension travel. The only thing that sucks about it is for supension and tire work it wouldnt work. I might buy one(I wouldnt get rid of the normal floor jack though). What I really want is a lift! That would be nice.

For real. I've been telling myself for years that whenever I actually move out and get my own house I'm kinda have a lift.
