Default Bigger tires = problems?

Hey everyone. New here and am looking for advice.

Some quick background: I have a 2000 Silverado 1500 4x4 with the extra cab and an 8 foot box. I bought it used 2 years ago and am in need of new tires. It came with 245 75 R16s on it. I would like to move up to 265s. What kind, if any, problems will I run into? I figure my gas mileage will go down a bit and the speedometer might be off but is that all I have to worry about?

I got a 2002 silverado 1500 4x4 ext. cab also. My old tires were 235/75 and i upgraded to the BFGoodrich all terrain k/o's and they are 275/75 and work very good. I have had no speedometer problems, or gas mileage problems. I think you will be ok.

your speedometer might be off like 2 mph at 60, but it wont be enough to get you in trouble... and mileage will be a little worse, but not even 1 mpg probably

Thanks for the replies. 275s for both of you? They must look great! The 245s on my truck make it look wimpy.

Thanks again!

You will have milage decrease, speedometer will be off a little, and power will be down some.

My 2003 came with 265's, and it originally called for 245's. No problems.

mmm... I remember my '94 had 265's on it when I got it in 2000. I went to Sears to get new ones. When I told the saleslady what I had on them, she didn't believe me. Had to take her out to see them for herself (somehow she didn't think I could read the tires). Put new ones on and she ran like a dream. I never had any problems with running 265s on it.

BTW, don't get tires from Sears
