Default CEL question

the Check Engine Light (CEL) on my truck 2005 Silverado Z71 4x4 5.3 is not working. Is it just a bulb that I can replace? Or, is this one of those vehicles where everything is part of the circuitry and I'll have to replace the unit?

Thanks, anything I should know about before I dig into the dash? Or anything that can/should be replaced while I'm in there?

Mine was simple, just took off the trim and then 4 bolts holdin the cluster and she comes out after unplugging the harness. In the back of the cluster you will see the base of the bulb holders twist and come out. There is several so make sure you replace the right one.

Haha /agree with Ruffneck, I can say from experience that it sucks when you put it all back together, only to find out you replaced the bad bulb with another bad bulb lol.

On a side note, its always a good time to install aftermarket gauge faces as some of the work is done already.
