Default changing clutch

I have a 1991 3/4 ton 4wd. We are going to change the clutch and flywheel. We are looking around at the project. Our haynes is not telling us everything.

Maybe someone can give us some insight. First Can we just back off the tranny to change the clutch or should we drop it. ?

It appears we will have to remove the cross piece on the frame which holds the tranny mount.

Any insight on disconnecting the transfer case?

thanks

You can move it back, but the tranny is pretty light once disconnected.
