Default Cold Air Intakes

Hey I just bought a 07 Sierra Classic. Its got the 4.8 and want more power and better mileage. I was thinking maybe adding a cai first and later a cat back. Has anyone used S&B cai? Which one is considered best or are they all about the same? I'm really leaning towards the Volant although the S&B Looks about the same but cheaper. What about the K&N? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Not sure about the S&B cai but there is a guy on the chevy forum that just got the Volant and loves it. He said it was nice because it is all the way closed unlike some of the others that the hood seals the cai. Im going to go with the volant on mine they also make a ram air scoop for the Volant also. I will have to look at the S&B to see how it compares to the Volant. Thanks

The S&B has a closed box design also. I went ahead and ordered a brand new one off ebay. I figured for $185 shipped it was a good deal and I would try it. Ill let you know how it turns out.

When my GM Cold Air Intakes had to be replaced, I had the K&N and luckily for me I got better fuel savings. Another good thing with this is that the kit for cleaning is fairly cheap when I want to clean and re oil my filters. I would still recomend using ones.K&N filters over the stock ones.

Where did you find the S&b on ebay for $185? Cheapest I found was $215. BTW, Do you like it? Noticable difference in mileage and power?

I have a 07 Classic, 1500, crew, Z71 4X4. I installed the S&B in less than an hour. Got mine off Ebay for $195.00, Best Offer option. Only thing I do not care for is the new version of #75-3023-1 has the entire front side cut out. Totally exposed to elements and engine heat. I called S&B techs. They said had to do it because the in fender air access was not sufficent so they cut out the front of the filter box. Most of the air will come from between the box and the grill. A good point is they also upgraded the filter to a larger one. I have noticed a small HP increase. As far as milage will know more after next week.

I would think that a closed box would defeat the purpose. I have a K&N. I just bought that figuring they were the first in the industry. It will give you a check engine light for Mass Air Flow. I hear Air Raid was started by twoguys that worked for K&N. The patent had to run out sometime!
