Thats strange I had my CAT's clog up and had my muffler guy just remove them and my "check engine" came on. After installing new ones the light hasn't come back on.

Damn if mine didn't. I cut the cats off the Z28 (an 81 model BTW) and it set off the CE light.
I don't think GM actually included the catalytic converter settings in the OBDII system of the 96-98 Silverado's. I think they bowed to the fact that catalytic converters on most Silvs are like baby teeth. They are gonna come out.

I have to agree with you on the cat settings thing. I have seen that my friends 95 without cats does have a ses light on but my other friend that has a 97 without cats has no light. Did you forget about TF till now or something. I haven't seen you here at all till now. You did forget. I bet me and 92silvy brought you back, didn't we?

Default headers back

i just took my whole y-pipe off my O5' ls crew cab shortwide. with both sensors it will definitely screw the sensors. then your air to fuel ratio programming will be all jacked up and it will bog down so nasty, but it sound sso good. i bought new SS converters, h pipe, pace setter headers. 1.5 to containment 2.5 back to super 44 dual mufflers to 3 in ch tips. all aluminized. convertors are stainless mirror finish with a heat shield. headers are aluminized black. i got the flowmaster U-Fir kit too. all stainless. i'm piSSed cause there's gonna hardly be any room for the mufflers on the right side. it's gonna be a crazy fab.

I do believe the cats should never be messed with on anything newer than a 1998. Really, the only reason why I cut mine off is because it was clogged. I think it was shown that a 5hp gain is possible when you replace the cat with a straight pipe, but true hi-flow cats allow a 4hp gain. So you stay legal and still gain 4hp with hi-flow cats. Just if anyone wanted to know.

I wouldnt take them off of anything recent. The newer cars and trucks are made to run with the cats and are actually designed to be more powerful with the cats than with out believe it or not. The older stuff, yes, cats just got in the way but you will not gain anything by taking them off of your truck. Dont waste your time.
