Dash Pad Removal - 2003 Sierra
Hello -
I have a 2003 Sierra that has some odd black cured urethane or some other unknown substance on the dark gray plastic dash pad. I've tried heating and chipping at it and it only makes whatever it is spread. Goo Gone doesn't seem to have any effect on it. Any suggestions on what I could use that won't damage the dash? If it won't come off or results in discoloration I'll have to replace it because I'm too picky for my own good. Does anyone have an online resource or a manual with instructions on how to remove the dash pad safely? I'm mostly concerned about any hidden screws or anything involving the passenger side airbag. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

I apologize I don't have any suggestions for removing the goo other than not paint thinner as this will remove the paint on the dash. If it is the large top dash piece it isn't too hard to remove you just have to be careful and be aware that all of the other plastic pieces need to come off to get to that one but the passenger airbag can stay in. If you are unable to get it clean let me know I would be happy to post the removal.
It's on the dash padnear the passenger side defroster vent near the windshield.I was able to find a dash pad so I thinkI'll pick it up just in case. I'll swap it out if it's not too hard and the colors match well.
Thanks for the reply. (I'm still getting the hang of this forum thing) [8D]
The spot is by the passenger defroster vent in pretty much the one place you don't want one because it's akward to work on. I may try the goo gone trickagainbut I think it is sinking into the plastic and becomingmore of a stainso I may attempt the dash pad swap this weekend.
