Default Electric Cooling Fans

I've been thinking about replacing my engine driven fan and getting an electric one. I recently bought a CAI and the tubing that comes out of the throttle body comes within 1/4" of the fan and fan shroud. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if an electric one would increase that clearance.

Also, if anyone who already has an electric fan could recommend one to me that would be great.

Thanks

I have stock electric fans, and yes there is a ton of clearance. Iwould go to a juckyard and get some off a wrecked truck, then have your computer programmed to run them. I don't know the year of your truck but there may be an open pin on the computer.

why would you have to recalibrate the computer?

If its not designed to run electric fans, then you have to tell it to.

If it's not designed to run electric fans, then the wiring harness shouldn't be designed to accomodatethem either right? Ifthey aren'tattached to the wiring harness how can the computer talk tothem to turn them on or off?

You are right, there will probably be no hookup on the wiring harness, you will have to run new wiring.

So technically there is no need to reprogram the computer for it either. You could simply hook the fans up to a toggle switch and turn them on when it get's up to running temperature or when you turn on the A/C right? I wonder if Argon could tell us if there would be any problems. I know the ECU is designed to talk to the cooling system to tell the fans when to turn on and off but I don't know if it would set a code to just remove the engine driven fan and hook up aftermarket fans to a toggle switch.

Yes you could hook up the fans toa switch, and they would work fine. Also they should not throw codes. Just would have to remember to hit the switch and watch the guages.

Depending on the year there is a port to plug in to on the computer and you have to reprogram the cpu to get that port to work. Kinda like MrMl7 did with his fans and a nelson wiring harness.

But I thought electric cooling fans didn't come stock until 05 and up. If that is the case then no one else's wiring harness is designed to accomodate electric cooling fans correct?
