Electric Cooling Fans
Ok, Im looking to run eletric fans in my truck too. What about that A/C relay? Do I really need it? Won't the temp prob on a standard temp relay kick on when the a/c heats up the rad? I haven't found good fans at a junk yard (they are either shotty, damaged or missing in any newer trucks) so I've been looking online too. I was planning on using two of these fans with a perma cool thremostat for dual fans. What do you think of these? (ZFB16S's 3000) http://www.snsclassics.com/fans.html
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if an electric fan off a 2005 Suburban is the same I would find on a 2005 Silverado?
Also, what would I need besides the fan itself to convert a 2004 Silverado from engine driven to electric? Just one of those wiring harnesses from Nelson?
Thanks

MrLM7 could tell you. Fans off a suburban should be identical to your truck(their the same thing!). Plus you have to get your ECU recalibrated to turn on some pin..... I don't remember what number. Should be several posts back on this topic.
The 99-04 trucks have 28 inch radiators. The 2005 and up trucks have 34 inch radiators. LS1 fans will work on the 99-04 trucks and you can just mount them using your factory shroud. The fans from a 2005 will not fit directly on there (fabrication sucks)... The Nelson harness is so simple to install becuase they make custom harnesses for YOUR application (fan connections are different)... You only need the A/C thing if you want to run your A/C. The A/C runs hot as **** if you don't. Truck will run fine... The port is PIN # 42...
From experience I can tell you that buying individual fans will not work unless you drop some serious cash on them. You need OEM dual or at least 4500cfm fan to keep it cool. They do make a kit for truck with 28" rads but its expensive. SPAL makes a fan controller that can be used with 2 fans, A/C, it uses you factory Temp Sensor and it is completely adjustable.
Hi i have a 99 gmc sierra that i would like to put a set of dual electric fans i have that are off a 90's camero that had a 5.7 in it. from what i have been reading my year truck does not have the option for the computer to control the fans, and i know that you can buy a thermoswitch to control the fans but from previous trucks that i have had and put electric fans on the thermoswitches never work. so any help on this would be appreiciated
Buy a dual fan thermostatic control with A/C relay. SPAL makes the best kind of controler for dual fans.
Oh and make sure you'll get enough CFMs from those fans! if you have a 4.8 you'll need at least 3800, 5.3 4000 and so on. If you tow or haul anything you'll need around 4500 or more.

Ya what cracker said, all you need is a thermostatic relay. Lots of guys in the the diesel scene are switching to dual FlexLight fans for the added power and efficiency and that's all they're using. You gain power and fuel economy but I have been told by a few people not cheap out on the product. You get what you pay for and its worth spending $100-$200 for a quality fan that won't leave you stranded on the side of the road like a typical horror or **** movie. **** movie? Hmm I think I'm on to something.
