Default Engine rebuild or engine replace?

2000 GMC 1500 4x4; 5.3L with 215K miles. Has been on Mobil 1 most of it's life; no oil use to speak of; no other leaks. But it's developed a loud lifter tick. I've tried every additive known to man (I think), to no avail. This lifter tick is not that aggravating tick just at start; it's quite loud and rev's along with the engine. At start, the oil pressure takes a while to build up (5-9 seconds); idles @ 32-37psi. To the point, how do you decide whether to rebuild that lifter or replace the engine? If replace, what engines out there do you all like/recommend?

Thank you. --Bryant

With your description of how the motor has been babied. I would throw a set of lifters in it and call it a day. These motors are regularly seeing over 300,000 miles and still running strong. Also check the rocker arm cradles. I had a tick and a bit of a miss that I chased for about a week and it was a $5.00 cradle that was cracked. Good luck!

I agree with what Mr. Shamrock has told you.
