Exhaust Help
i drive a 2000 silverado z71 with a 5.3. i alreay have a set of headers on it, a k&nair intake, and acorsa exhaust. it is a loud exhuast but not at idle. i was thinking about taking off the muffler and putting a striaght pipe. will this effect performance, and is it bad for the engine? or should i take that muffler off and put a flowmaster or a glasspackin its place?
It probably will not sound as good with straight pipe as it will with a Flowmaster. Not sure how the Corsa exhausts sound but I know my Flowmaster 40 has a nice rumble to it at idle. What kind of headers are you running? Shorties or Long tubes?
If I was you I would true dual straight pipe it. If you want it to be loud. Thats what I would do and personally I think straight pipes sound way better than anything on the market. Dont get me wrong Flowmasters sound ok on trucks and great on cars.
That 5.3 will run worse with true duel straight pipes. The best thing that I would reccommend would be to go with duel pipes and then have an x pipe and then go with duel out the sides in front of the wheels. This will shorten the exhaust which will make it louder. Also you will be able to hear it better. If loud is what you want then the fastest easiest way is to put dumps under it.
