exhaust, muffler, etc....
Thats fine. Here goes my final proposition. Run Duals from the engine and get two flowmaster mufflers and 4" chrome pipes. How would that sound when compared to just dual straight pipes?
It will actually no sound as good. Not enough flow. I would stay with single in dual out. Or you can put in adjustable valves to build back in backpressure. But true duals on a 5.3 with no added restriction will kill lowend power. After you get to 2500 rpm it is really fast, but not worth what you loose off the line and in milage.
I'd keep the cat and just run a single in/ dual out muffler. I did this and still lost some low end in my truck. I've since regained most of it with other mods though so it's all good.
The electric cutouts are a great idea, just expensive. I still say single in sngle or dual out. Also leave the cat as it doesn't help to remove it on the 5.3. Straight pipes will steal all your lowend unless you do the electric cutout like cracker said. Topend will be impressive though.
I have a custom cat back system. They cut the pipes just before the Y, then did true dual after that. If I were you, I would wait till I get this new idea figured out, so you can get te best of both worlds. But a local shop can do it for less than $400.
