Default Factory hitch class

I have a 2009 Silverado 1500 4WD Crew. I am wondering if I should be upgrading my hitch, but I can't find anywhere that tells me the class of hitch that the factory put on the truck. Is it a Class 3, IV or V? I assume it's not a V. Does it depend on which package is installed on the truck? I have the HD trailering equipment package.

Thanks for the info.

Tom,

If you have the HD trailering pkg. you are good to tow anything within the trucks limits.

to my knowledge chevy does not sell a truck that comes standard with a class V (5th Wheel Hitch). Anyways, your Hitch is a class 4, meaning a trailer up to 12000# and 1200# on the tongue. Also worth noting this is way over the amount of work your truck can do for sure. If you put 1200# on that tongue its going to be touching the ground. I have a 1500 5.3l truck. It will pull a flatbed loaded with bricks (about 3500#) alright, not great just alright but I have another trailer that weights 7000# by itself and its a complete trud, hitch weight is 800#, and it squats to much for me to drive it. Know the trucks limits and for god sake dont pull a 5th camper wheel with a 1500 (as I saw in another post) , not only would you get pulled over (they do that here in Indiana) but your putting other drivers at risk when you go above and beyond what your truck can do. Remember, they make one ton and 3/4 ton trucks for a reason. Anyone who says their 1500 is comparable has never driven a one ton. Night and day difference
