fan clutch

How do I check the fan clutch to make sure it works? My truck has overheated lately,has a lock open thermostat

See if you can turn it by hand and how much it takes for it to stop spinning. If it doesn't stop for a few seconds then more than likely it is burned up. If it grabs quick then its ok.
