How do you remove the fan clutch for a 2003 2500 HD with the 6L engine. The clutch is on one large bolt in the center of the waterpump pulley. Which way do I need to turn this to loosen it, and how can I stop the pulley from moving. Everything spins when I try to loosen it. Thanks.

 

Keep the surpentine belt on. Use Large electrical ties to bind the belt around the Tensioner Pulley, Powersteering pulley. Hard to explain. Put wrench on the nutand WHACK it with a BIG hammer from right to left. Righty tighty, Lefty loosy. A little bitof penetrating fluid would help also.

 

Thanks! I let it sit with pentrating fluid for a half hour. Then I went out with a big wrench and hammer like you saidand it came right off.

 

If that dont work get a strap wrench pull the belt off and use the strap wrench to hold the pulley.

 

I agree with that method. Worked for me on pretty much every pulley I had to remove. An impact gun works best tho if you have room.

 

i just held the pully with my hand and turned the fan clutch off with the other hand.
