fuel pump relay getting hot
6 months ago I replaced the fuel pump on my 2000 Silverado. I bought the pump at AutoZone and they reccommended the upgraded plug as well. I bought and installed. All was well until 2 weeks ago. Truck ran fine all day, I towed a car with a car dolly for a 90 mile round trip. My son then took the truck another 40 miles and parked it for about 2 hours, then tried to start and it wouldn't. The next day, I swapped out the horn and FP relay and it started right up. Relay was bad. Drove another 40 miles home, no problem again for several short 5-10 mile trips. Now, relay is getting hot and failing after about 4-5 minutes. I've rechecked the connection at the pump, all appears ok. I looked under the relay box too. All wires seem ok.
Any other ideas?
Do the wires from the relay harness go to the brain?
anyway to by-pass?
thanks

Just a thought, I had an Oldsmobile doing this. It was a 96 model. Every once in a while it would pop the fuse to the fuel pump. I would replace it and then fine for a while. The intervals kept getting closer till eventually it would pop as soon as I would try to start it. Could never figure out on my own what it was. Took it to a shop, it was the oil sending unit gone bad. The computer couldn't read no oil pressure so it would pop the fuel pump fuse to prevent damage to the engine. Just a thought.
